Osteopathy Personal Statement Example

Sample Statement

If you’re looking for a career that combines practical skill with a high level of knowledge then an Osteopathy degree might be the right choice for you. Getting your personal statement right is the first step towards an interesting and highly rewarding career in Osteopathy.

To give you an idea of what admissions tutors are looking for, here is our example of a personal statement for an Osteopathy degree at university.

From an early age I was always fascinated by the body and how illnesses could be treated as if by magic by medicine and physical therapy. As I got older I realised that medicine and therapy was not magic and became interested in a career in the medical industry.

At school I tried hard in all my subjects but I especially enjoyed Mathematics and all of the Science subjects, particularly Biology. I continued the study of Biology at A Level alongside Chemistry, Psychology, and Ethics.

The latter subjects allowed me to gain a greater insight into how the human mind works and I undertook independent research into how psychological techniques can be used to enable a faster recovery from physical injuries and ailments.

My independent research, combined with a work experience placement at a local osteopathy clinic, confirmed my belief that I wanted to work in an industry that helps people improve their health and wellbeing.

My work placement helped me to develop the experience, practical skills, and knowledge I will need to be a successful student. It also helped me build on my already strong teamwork and communication skills.

Outside of school I lead an active lifestyle as a regular runner and have recently completed my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. As well as learning to trust my own intuition I also enjoyed the voluntary work I undertook for six months at a local Food Bank centre.

I look forward to the new challenges that life at university will bring and am fully committed to gaining as much as I can from the practical parts of the module and work placements.
