Facilities

Location

Situated just three miles from the city centre, the University of Hull has one of the most attractive campuses in the country.

The city of Hull is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the northern shore of the Humber Estuary. It has good road and rail links to England’s major cities. Hull is 200 miles from London, 100 miles from Manchester and 60 miles from Leeds.

Library and study facilities

Following its £28-million redevelopment, completed in early 2015, the University's Brynmor Jones Library is now a state-of-the-art learning space.

However you like to work, there is a space for you, with access to all our print and digital collections. There are 29 bookable group study rooms, multiple spaces for informal group work and plenty of quiet or silent study space.

We also have 350 open-access PCs, 48 laptops available for loan, multifunctional printers, scanners and photocopiers, and self-service issuing facilities in all areas.

IT

We want to provide the best possible experience for our students and staff, so we’re changing the way we work.

Our IT Transformation Journey means huge improvements for our systems, website, connectivity and services. It'll allow more flexibility for our students in the way they work – with all the information they need at their fingertips.

Changes are already taking place. An extensive upgrade has made with WiFi available across the whole campus, at a connection speed six times faster than before.

The IT Transformation Journey will result in more integrated and improved technology for everyone at the University.

Careers service

Our Careers and Employability Service will help you gain the skills to succeed in the workplace after graduating. The team can also assist you with finding work experience placements as well as internships, and work during the summer holidays.

Amenities

Student satisfaction surveys often score Hull among the best institutions for on-campus facilities. We have various cafes, coffee shops, snack bars and restaurants, as well as two bars and a nightclub, which are part of the students’ union.

The union shop also stocks all those essentials you’ll need during your time on campus, from snacks to stationery.

Students' Union

Enrolling at the University also makes you a member of Hull University Union (HUU). Located in a central position on campus, the union is a great place to meet friends, grab some food and chill out between lectures.

HUU has two bars as well as Asylum, an award-winning 2,500-capacity nightclub and live music venue. It has attracted big-name acts such as Tinie Tempah, Miles Kane, Chase and Status, and The Streets.

The union has also won a Best Bar None award four years running for being one of the safest student venues in the UK.

At our membership services area, you can sign up for sports teams and societies. You can also find part-time work to fit alongside your studies or visit your Sabbatical Officers.

Students at Hull keep themselves busy and active. As well as joining societies and volunteering schemes, you can also get involved with Jam Radio and Hullfire, the union’s student paper. Whatever part you want to play, there’s always something going on in HUU.

Financial help

We offer all of our students the opportunity to sign up to our on-campus Sports and Fitness Centre. This provides indoor sports and exercise classes, as well as an industry-standard gym with the latest cardio and strength equipment.

The centre also has an international-standard squash court, a martial arts studio, a sauna and floodlit artificial pitches.

There are more than 30 different sports clubs available for you to join as part of your HUU membership. Clubs on offer vary from football and rugby through to skiing and ice-skating, and they meet on a regular basis to train and play.

Medical and welfare services

Our student support team is here to provide any assistance you might need in the areas of wellbeing, faith, finance and disabilities. Our on-campus chapel is open to everyone, and we offer free counselling services for anyone who may need an extra level of support.

There’s no medical centre on site, but we'll provide you with contact details for local GP surgeries during your first week on campus.

Financial help

Scholarships and bursaries are available for undergraduates and postgraduates who meet the relevant criteria.

Any students who are particularly struggling can apply to the University’s Hardship Fund to help them pay for essentials like accommodation.
