Occupational Therapy

Courses -occupationaltherapy-

Occupational therapy involves assessing and treating both physical and psychological conditions using techniques designed to encourage independence in all aspects of daily life.

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages in a variety of settings including hospitals and within community environments. Patients may need help to overcome a disability as a result of factors including illness, injury, or aging.

All occupational therapy degree courses need to be approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as you’ll need to register with the HCPC after graduating to be able to practice as an occupational therapist.

As well as classroom based learning you’ll also have access to local practice areas to gain real world experience without needing to miss out on lectures.

You’ll learn the theoretical and practical aspects of Occupational Therapy during your degree including the components of the biological, behavioural, social, and medical sciences.

Your Occupational Therapy degree will also cover the technical, practical, managerial, and communication skills that you’ll need to be successful in your future career.

Once you’re qualified you may also find yourself working in places such as nursing homes, commercial organisations, prisons, or in patients’ homes.

Career prospects are good as you can specialise or undertake further research. In fact, some roles within the NHS allow you to do both as an occupational therapist consultant.

You may also want to consider moving into a managerial or teaching role once your career is established.
