Newman is a values-driven university where students are central to all that the University does. Students are encouraged to engage with theories and concepts, discuss ideas with tutors and become self-motivated, independent learners and creative thinkers able to make a difference in the world.
This student-centred approach, and dedication to producing inquisitive graduates with the initiative to rise to challenges has resulted in Newman University achieving several notable achievements including:
Being founded as recently as 1968, the buildings are modern and purpose-built. The campus is arranged around a series of inner quadrangles of lawns and trees. Halls of residence provide single study-bedrooms for over 200 students, conveniently adjacent to the teaching areas and well-stocked library. Over £20 million is being invested on improving the campus for students, including a vibrant new-build entrance and state-of-the-art library, creating a modern and attractive learning environment.
Over the years a strong sporting tradition has developed in Newman: there is a large sports hall, a gymnasium, squash courts, all-weather sports pitch and a health and fitness centre on site. Newman attracts students from all parts of the United Kingdom and beyond. Over the years students from many different backgrounds have studied here and have enriched our communal life. Newman University promotes equality of opportunity for every member of Newman community in all aspects of the life and work of Newman.
At Newman we are very proud of the praise we have received from external bodies relating to the quality of our courses. Routine inspections from both OFSTED and the Quality Assurance Agency (the body responsible for safeguarding standards in UK universities and higher education colleges) have highlighted significant strengths in this area. The academic quality is underpinned by a new £20million library and campus refurbishment.
Of course there is more to university life than courses and libraries. At Newman, you will be given the support, knowledge and skills to prepare you for life after university. This could be why Newman University historically has one of the best employment rates of colleges and universities in the UK.
