Medical School Open Days

It is very important to attend an open day if you are thinking of studying medicine. These courses last a long time (usually 6 years) and are heavily over-subscribed so it’s wise to go to the university and listen to course information and academic requirements. By doing this, you can be sure that this is the path you wish to choose. 

If the university uses a booking system for open days, make sure you book early as all the places will fill up quick. Obtaining a place on a medicine course is a hard thing to do and listening to tutors talk about the admissions procedure will give you a good idea of how to impress on those personal statements. 

The day will usually consist of welcome sessions which will give you an introduction to the university and a medicine talk that will
provide you with more detailed information about the content and structure of the course along with any entry requirements. The student support services are likely to be represented in some way on the day. They may hold talks on finance, accommodation and careers and will be there to answer
any of your questions. 

Most medical open days also involve a tour. This will show you the entire university campus as well as the medical teaching facilities that you will be using throughout your time at the university. You may be lucky enough to take part in a clinical skills demonstration which will give you a glimpse into the life of a medical student. Student accommodation may also be available for you to view so take the chance to see where you could be living.
