Booking a place on an Edinburgh University open day
Booking for each Edinburgh University open day is available around six weeks beforehand and is available online. Open days tend to be popular so it’s vital to book, particularly if you are planning to come to Edinburgh from a significant distance away.

What’s available on the open day?
The main point of attending any university open day is to find out whether the city, campus and course are going to be right for you. Edinburgh University plans the open day schedules so that you can:
- See the campus, academic facilities and experience a little of what it is like to study in Edinburgh.
- Get more information on accommodation provided by Edinburgh University, what type of student support is available and the careers service.
- Meet current students and lecturers and tutors from the academic department running the courses that interest you.
The open day incorporates campus tours and specific talks related to specific courses, as well as lots of opportunities to ask informal questions and get a feel for the city. Check out the university guide on making the most of your open day
What if I can’t get to Edinburgh?
For prospective students coming from the southern part of England, time and cost of travel may mean that it’s just not possible for you to attend an open day. If you can get to Edinburgh at any other time, it’s also possible to book a place on a campus tour that is led by current a current student. You will be taken around the central area of Edinburgh University, the George Square campus to see one of the lecture theatres, the library and the students’ union. You will see the academic departments from the outside but you won’t be able to explore inside without prior arrangement.
