The University of Liverpool

The university experience is about much more than just studying, so whether you want to continue with your favourite hobby or try something completely different, at Liverpool we have a wide-range of activities available on campus for you to get involved in.

Learning resources

Investing in our students’ learning experience is important to us, so you can be sure that your studies will be supported by the very latest technologies and resources. We have two libraries located on campus offering 24 hour term-time opening; over 1.9 million books and 620,000 electronic books; 85,200 electronic journals; special collections including the largest Science Fiction collection in Europe and rare books and manuscripts and excellent feedback in the National Student Survey.

We offer 2,000 PCs across campus; high speed Wi-Fi; 24 hour service desk and free email, file space and software. You’ll be able to access our services wherever you are, including course materials, virtual chat and project work support through our Virtual Interactive Teaching at Liverpool (VITAL) and you’ll be able to improve your study skills

Sport Liverpool

Whether you are already competing at a serious level, or just for fun; whether you want to try something completely new or just keep fit, at Liverpool there is something for everyone. Our Sports and Fitness Centre at the heart of campus has a 25 m swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness centres, bouldering wall, two sports halls, dance and spinning studios and squash courts. Few university sports grounds can match the number of quality outdoor sports facilities we have at our Wyncote site.

Music on Campus

Liverpool is a city full of music and our Campus is bursting with the musical activities of students of all instrumental abilities. Anyone can enjoy making music at the University of Liverpool. For classically minded musicians we have the University Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra, between the two they generate at least six concerts per term. The Chamber Orchestra undertakes an annual tour of Normandy and takes paying gigs around the country. Liverpool University Music Society (LUMS) develops ensemble musicianship in all standards of musicians; Band Society allows students to form bands and play at the best venues in the city. Then there’s the Folk Society, the Big Band for jazz and swing enthusiasts, the Flute Choir, the Brass Band, the University Singers and the Chamber Choir… and if none of these take your fancy you can always start your own!

The Guild

Our Guild has recently had a £14.25 million redevelopment and is now one of the best equipped students’ union buildings in the country. As soon as you join the University of Liverpool, you automatically become a member of the Guild of Students. The Guild offers 180 student-run societies which you can get involved in, not to mention our super volunteer programmes and student-staff roles. It’s a vibrant place where you can try new things and meet new people: take part in “Give it a Go” trips, enjoy live music gigs and make the most of our other good quality, affordable services. It’s also here to offer support whenever you need us.  The Guild also campaigns for positive change, listening to students to fight for the things which matter most to you.
