As part of our commitment to providing the best possible student experience, we're providing new on-campus accommodation for 560 people. 

These new residences will provide a vibrant living, learning and social environment. They’ll be the ideal base for attending lectures during the day and enjoying the University’s facilities in the evening. 

The accommodation will be available for September 2016. It will comprise a mixture of standard rooms in eight-bedroom flats, deluxe rooms in four-bedroom flats and stunning rooftop one-bedroom apartments.

The Lawns

Set in 40 acres of parkland, The Lawns consists of seven halls: Downs, Ferens, Grant, Lambert, Morgan, Reckitt and Nicholson, plus the Lawns bungalows. The Lawns is home to almost 1,000 students. 

All rooms are single, and there’s a mix of en-suite and shared bathroom facilities. The Lawns halls are semi-catered, which means you’ll get a daily evening meal (excepting Nicholson Hall and the Lawns bungalows, which are self- catered). 

At the heart of The Lawns you’ll find the Lawns Centre, our social hub. Having recently undergone a £2.5-million refurbishment, it has everything you'll need during your time with us.

Thwaite Hall

Thwaite Hall is an 18th-century country house set in more than 24 acres of beautiful grounds. A large lake, meadow and woodland area provide a tranquil setting and a place to relax as well as study. 

Inside you’ll find 195 single rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Thwaite Hall is fully catered, which means that you'll get breakfast and an evening meal from Monday to Friday, and brunch and an evening meal at weekends.

Taylor Court

Taylor Court consists of 12 individual buildings; each has 24 rooms and overlooks a communal courtyard. Residents all have single en-suite rooms, with access to shared kitchen/dining areas. 

It's a safe and secure environment: each room has its own electronic entry system linked to the main entrance. There are also separate locks on each floor of every building and a 24-hour on-campus security service.

Other housing options / private halls

The University owns 189 two-storey terraced houses in the streets next to the campus. Most houses accommodate five students in single rooms with shared bathroom facilities. It's self-catering, so there's a communal kitchen, most of which have a small social area: great for getting to know your housemates. 

We also run a leasing scheme where properties are owned by private landlords but managed by the University. Most of these properties have double beds (smaller rooms have singles) and all have shared bathroom facilities. The majority are within a mile of the campus.
